Autumn slow discovering the Foreste Casentinesi

Many initiatives and events where visitors can admire the colors, smells and tastes of one of the most beautiful and fascinating ecosystems in Europe: Autumn Slow is back again this year in the Foreste Casentinesi Park.

Excursions, walks, labs, exhibitions, photography workshops, festivals, tastings and many special events will allow visitors to experience the autumn landscapes, its colors and smells, discovering the typical wine, food, and local traditions. A wide program of events will involve both sides of the Park, in Romagna and Tuscany, with many events offering the chance to get to know the natural heritage of a unique area with exceptional scenery.

The Foreste Casentinesi, for their extraordinary nature and wide range of species, are one of the few places in Italy where you can admire the changing of the seasons from summer to autumn and the spectacular fall foliage.  In autumn, this forest, which in summer is an immense green ocean, suddenly explodes in a kaleidoscope of color, from the golden beech trees at high altitudes to all shades of yellow, and reds and browns in lower altitudes.

This period is also ideal for getting to know the many "slow food" products and places where visitors can taste ancient recipes made with local seasonal products such as mushrooms, chestnuts, pumpkins, honey, Raviggiolo cheese from the Tuscan-Romagna Apennines, Tuscan pecorino and other delicious flavors (Info www.parcoforestecasentinesi.it).

For those who would like to spend a few days immersed in the colors and nature of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, mixing events from the "Autumn Slow" program with activities and excursions dedicated to discovering this area, you can choose among some package deals for both individuals and groups with a guide (bookings at 0543.917912).

From the excursion from one to three nights discovering the Bidente valley, from the Ridracoli dam to the peaks of Monte Falco and Falterona with stops in the high plain of San Paolo in Alpe to the trekking for 3 nights admiring the nearby Acquacheta, one of the most beautiful waterfalls of the Apennines mentioned by the great poet Dante in the Divine Comedy. All of this and the great hospitality and food typical of Romagna in San Benedetto in Alpe, one of the most evocative historic places in all of Romagna.

Among the upcoming events is "Impianti aperti" on October 13 in Ridracoli (FC), a day dedicated to water systems.  From 10am to 5pm the Water Treatment Plant, the Dam and the Hydro Eco Museum of Water can be visited free of charge (Info 0543-917912 from 9.00am to 2.00pm). For gluttons, on October 13 Bagno di Romagna welcomes the “Zambudelle Festival”.  Only older generations, those who experienced and know Romagna traditions by heart, know that the "zambudelle" is the so-called crazy sausage (Info www.comune.bagnodiromagna.fc.it).

Do not miss the “Gran Galà del Gusto” on Friday, November 15 at Sala Ostello in Santa Sofia at 9pm.  Dinner made with typical seasonal products from this area.
