The Green Day in Emilia Romagna

More than 80 events on schedule, 9 provinces involved, 2 national parks and many nature reserves: these are the statistics of the Green Day Emilia Romagna 2014 on schedule for Monday, June 2 throughout the region.  A great festival from the mountains to the plains, an event that will allow everyone to spend a day in a natural and uncontaminated environment with a slow-going pace.  With the participation of two national parks - the Parco delle Foreste Casentinesi and the Parco Tosco Emiliano - and many nature reserves, Emilia Romagna is in fact one of the greenest areas of Italy.

The invitation is for everyone, big and small, but especially for those who live in the city or maybe do not know that in Emilia Romagna in less than an hour by car from all the major cities it is possible to reach natural oases and historic places to visit.

The Apennines should be enjoyed slowly and while relaxing: by foot, by bike, on horseback or by boat.  This way you can discover the culture of these areas, without forgetting the local food.  Along with the many events, there are also package deals for every budget starting at €5, which can be checked  out at the site Appennino e Verde.

Here are some of the experiences - or better, emotions - that can be had at this great festival of the mountains, parks and reserves in this region.

Grazzano Visconti (PC) offers the fourth edition of the “Owl Festival”: an event for everyone totally dedicated to nocturnal birds of prey.  The goal is to help people get to know and safeguard the wild nature of these protected species.  Visitors can have fun at the art shows, antiques market, and exhibitions of paintings, sculptures, photography, music, crafts, and food as well as at the conventions and round table discussions.

At the Castello di Scipione (PR), kids, dressed as elves, fairies, gnomes, wizards, knights and dames, will become the stars of a great exciting adventure: save the “Enchanted Castle” and the wood with the spell of Stregone Moebius.  The admission ticket is also valid for a guided tour of the Castle and the big garden which will be open to the public for this event with the chance to have a picnic with fresh local products.

The Cerwood Adventure Park in Cervarezza (RE) has scheduled two days dedicated to the “Reawakening of the Wood”: an adventure for the whole family along the Path of the Gnomes looking for this population of little people while discovering the biodiversity of the Parco Nazionale Appennino Tosco- Emiliano.  The ropes courses and many other activities will be available all day at Cerwood Park.  Do not miss the “Slow walk”, a walk from Cervarezza up to the peak of Monte Ventasso, passing by the Fonti di Santa Lucia, the Lago Calamone and the Oratory of S. Maria Maddalena.

At the Parco Regionale del Frignano (MO) there will be an excursion with "Itinerando Emilia Romagna" and VivIparchi: a pathway among ancient trees and lovely landscapes with a bag lunch and mountain snack at an agriturismo.

Bologna this year will offer a trip back in time with “La Via degli Dei”, a hiking trail along the ancient Roman road which led from Bologna to Florence: la Flaminia Militare.  Along the path, many pieces of cobbled Roman roads can be seen.  Do not miss the trip “Sui sentieri di Goethe”, from Bologna to Florence an exciting and varied journey that connects Emilia to Tuscany, a hike suited to everyone through areas with ever-changing landscapes and environmentally important habitats.

In Ferrara you can pedal among art and natural oases with “Primavera Slow”. On June 2, you can chose from the many events and excursions throughout the Po Delta Park: excursions on foot, by boat, on horseback, or even nighttime outings to see the stars and listen to the night noises.  Do not miss “Slowemotion”: all day there will be photography stands in the marshes of Argenta.

In Brisighella (RA) there will be a weekend dedicated to the Middle Ages: events and historic reenactments, many shows at the Rocca Veneziana situated on an ancient outcrop in the lovely medieval town of Brisighella.

In Santa Sofia (FC) the Green Day will be full of events for everyone, big or small. From morning to night the whole town will be enlivened by numerous activities promoting the Apennines.

In Valmarecchia (RN) two days of guided excursions up to the Rocca di San Leo and the Castello di Montebello, going through woods and peaks along the river Marecchia.  The deal in all the provinces this year is “Special Golf”: Full Week package – Emilia Romagna Circuit (25 Golf Courses and 24 Golf Hotels in Emilia Romagna).  Prices start at €540 per person (7 nights in a B&B + 5 green fees on the courses of Emilia Romagna).

From Piacenza to Rimini there are many events to choose from for a weekend full of hiking, boat rides on rivers and mountain lakes, tastings of local food, all organized by the Unione di prodotto Appennino e Verde.
