Christmas Markets 2016

The air is filled with joyous melodies and the smell of roasted chestnuts and mulled wine, the streets are lit, and every square becomes a great place to meet up with friends and relatives, surrounded by delights, curiosities and many gift ideas.

It is time for the Christmas markets of Emilia Romagna, which, like every year, fill the squares and main streets of every town and city starting at the end of November with local products and traditional crafts, as well as foods and all the sweets of this holiday.

The Via Emilia, which runs across the region from north to south, can be seen also from the sky, all lit up with Christmas lights that map out the places to stop for all those who love deals that cannot be missed.

In the province of Piacenza, in Grazzano Visconti you can look around the stands of crafts and artistic products, and in the stores find wrought iron objects, perfumes, soaps, sweets, honey, original Christmas decorations and many gift ideas. Along with the Christmas markets, there will be special events such as the Bikers Christmas Rally and the Father Christmases Walk. Then there will be the markets of the Befana with artists from all over Italy, roasted chestnuts and mulled wine and then the final bonfire "Brusa la vecia". Until Janaury 6.

The smell of nougat, the colors of the decorations, the entertainment for children are all part of the scene in Reggio Emilia and the nearby towns until December 24.

In Modena the itinerary among the markets continues on the Little Christmas Train that picks up children and adults of all ages. On Saturday afternoons, waiting for the train is even more fun in the company of Santa Claus. An important moment of Christmas will be in Piazza XX Settembre and will involve the Albinelli Market on the days of December 17-18 and 21-22-23. Until January 15 the stars of the unbeatable stands of sweets and Christmas decorations are Piazza Matteotti and Largo Porta Bologna.

If it is a gift that you are looking for or a special dress or accessory to wear during the holidays, or a decoration for your tree or a statue for your nativity scene, Bologna is a huge shiny showcase that has a solution for everything and every… wallet. Among the places of the most voted downtown for its numerous stands there is the monumental arcade of the Chiesa di Santa Maria dei Servi with the Ancient Fair of Saint Lucy. Its origins date back to the end of the 16th century, a long tradition that is part of the historic memory of Bologna. Until January 8.

The heart of Forlì is the fatherland of markets, from Christmas markets to food ones. Next to the big ecological Christmas tree and the ice rink, the Piazze d'incanto host crafts, local Christmas products and the best of street food that will lead you by your nose. But the shopping and deals continue also in the city shops: in those participating in the circuit Forlì nel Cuore you can pick up a coupon with discounts for the attractions downtown. Until January 8. Also worth visiting is the market in Piazzetta della Misura, open until Epiphany.

Christmas is already downtown in Ferrara where, until January 8, the streets and squares will be lit up for the holidays with different deals on every corner for an enchanting walk among the shows, stands with local crafts and food, and Christmas decorations. Among the side events of the main markets, there will be the Decathlon Ice Park with its downhill ice rink that is 70 meters long.

Moving towards the Po Delta, you will reach the lagoon town of Comacchio, festively lit up with markets of every kind. There will be many events in particular dedicated to children, with entertainment and street performances. The songs and gospel concerts will warm your heart while hot chocolate and Christmas sweets will delight your mouth. On December 26, everyone will be watching the canals of "little Venezia" which will be lit up with the traditional Christmas torch parade on the water. December 9-10, 15-18, 22, 24, 26 and January 5-7.

There is so much to choose from in Ravenna where, until January 8, under the arcades and in the squares there will be markets of every kind: the Art Market, the Green Healthy Market, the Km 0 Market, the Christmas Huts, the Exhibition Market of local and organic products of businesswomen from Romagna, the Exhibition Market of Antiques and Crafts of the city of Ravenna, and the Flower Market. The carousel and the Lilliputian train will bring joy to children.

Ancient Rimini will not miss out on the chance to celebrate Christmas in grand style and, for the occasion of "the longest New Year's Eve in the world", for almost a whole month it will offer many experiences to be had and markets to discover from downtown to the beach, until January 8. Downtown, to go through the streets and squares in an original and fun way, you can get on the little train driven by Santa Claus himself. Together with the traditional markets, worth visiting is the exhibition market of fair trade of Pacha Mama.

What better occasion to make some purchases if not in the city of fashion and stylish shopping? In Riccione there will be a real Christmas village made up of lights, sets, original markets, attractions and fun for the whole family. Along the main streets of the Christmas Fashion Market you will find the Gift House, original stands shaped like gift boxes, and glowing igloo that offer trendy food and beverages, oysters and Franciacorta, handmade chocolate and make up. The fashion igloo run all the way down to the port canal where there is a big Christmas tree made up of giant glowing spheres. At the Christmas Wonderland, children will find their very own wonderland of markets, games, rides and attractions. Walking along the streets to the sea will be magical thanks to special lighting with arial patterns, waterfalls of lights and huge inflatable penguins, bears, sleds pulled by reindeer, and snowmen. Until January 15.
