History and curiosity are why you should make a stop at the Rocca Sanvitale in Fontanellato, at the Castello di Scipione of Pallavicino, at the Rocca dei Rossi of San Secondo Parmense, at the Rocca Sanvitale of Sala Baganza, in the Palazzo Farnese - Cittadella Viscontea in Piacenza, at the Rocca d'Olgisio, at the Malaspina Castle Gambaro and at the Reggia of Colorno.

This year is the bicentennial of the arrival of the Duchess Maria Luigia in the Duchy of Parma who in those years made strong ties with these places in a land full or treasures, castles and great landscapes.

The Agreement of Fontainebleau of 11 April 1814 recognized Maria Luigia of Austria and her heirs as rulers of the Duchy of Parma, Piacenza and Guastalla. After the German Marie Luise and the French Marie Louise the Italian Maria Luigia was chosen and on 29 February 1816 the choice was made public by a decree. After some disputes the Duchess left for Italy on 7 March 1816.

Maria Luigia arrived in the States of the Duchy on 19-20 April 1816 and she established in Parma her first residence, where she focused her political and administrative power through a centralized system. When Parma was confirmed, then, as the headquarters of the Court and of public institutions, Piacenza immediately became an Austrian military stronghold under the empire.
