Salt Festival

Cervia (RA)
Although nowadays salt is one of the most common ingredients on our table, in the past it used to be so rare and precious that people used to call it 'white gold' because it was fundamental for the preservation of food.
Therefore it is easy to imagine how Cervia was linked to this product with its nearly 2,000 acres of salt-pans.
The purpose of this event is to remember and celebrate Cervia's past and 'dedicate' a celebration to its precious salt, reenacting past traditions and proposing various themed attractions: exhibitions, historical reenactments of the traditional salt delivery, music and performances.
In September, at the end of a season of hard work, the ancient and fascinating process of salt extraction and transport, from the saltpan to the Salt Warehouses, called "armèsa de sel", was a very important moment because by this process the 'white gold' was placed in a safe place. Therefore it became an occasion to celebrate. Cervia reenacts this tradition every year.
The event is especially dedicated to food and wine products.
