26th Market Exhibition of autumnal products and ancient fruits

Streets of the old town centre

Casola Valsenio (RA)

Once more in Casola Valsenio the traditional date with the fair dedicated to the rediscovery of old forgotten flavours, the products of autumn and those fruits which have fallen into disuse over time.

Casola farmers exhibit the autumnal fruits harvested from ancient plants, in a scenario that evokes the cultural and folklore aspects of the rural life that once was led. The stars will be precisely those small autumnal fruits once eaten by farm people in the hills within living memory: medlar, azerole, sorb, filbert, chestnut, cane apple, cornolian cherry, walnut, pomegranate, rose apple, quince, volpina pear and all the others.

During the fair there will be competitions for the tastiest jams and chestnut-based cakes, one for the finest stand and one for photography.

A well furnished refreshment point with prizewinning chefs will offer autumnal specialities and throughout autumn local restaurateurs will be proposing “Forgotten fruit cuisine”, dishes based on these delights. Then there is the exhibition and sale of ancient fruit plants to embellish parks and gardens. For the occasion of the Fair and on other days, the Arboretum of forgotten fruit in the Botanic Garden “A. Rinaldi Ceroni” in Casola Valsenio offers visitors cultural and material knowledge of around 400 medicinal plants.

In completion of the programme there will be moments of technical and informative in-depth study, tastings, excursions on foot and by mountain bike, guided tours of the Cardello, presentation of books and of shows that will reward visitors with a food, wine and folklore heritage of great value.

Date: the event will be held on Oct 08, 2016, Oct 09, 2016, Oct 15, 2016, Oct 16, 2016
