ARGILLÀ – ITALIA
The Ceramics festival
Different places
Faenza (RA)
ATTENTION! This event has endedA “long weekend" in Faenza, one of the world capitals of majolica (the name of the city itself gave rise to the word “faiences”), to discover the world of ceramics and ceramicists, through events, exhibitions, and cultural and spectacular activities:
• ARGILLÀ: market-fair to be held on August 31st (afternoon) and September 1st and 2nd along the streets of the Historic District of Faenza, with 200 exhibitors from ceramics capitals in Italy, France, Germany, Spain, Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia and Croatia, as well as other European nations,
• Cultural and collateral events: the city, through its own structures (International Museum of Ceramics, Exhibition Hall, crafts and cultural associations, AICC, the State Institute of Art Gaetano Ballardini, I.S.I.A., etc.) will become a venue for an exciting programme of shows, exhibitions, and activities.
• RAKURIOSI: a challenge in raku: the 5th edition of the raku competition that takes place, in alternate years, in Rome and Faenza, by maestri Goffredo Gaeta and Arturo Saccone.
ARGILLÀ – ITALIA continually develops the characteristics of the French mother-manifestation held in Aubagne, near Marseille, with high quality exhibitors, a great public, and excellent events and collateral events. At the same time, there will be a broader integration towards Europe through the collaboration of a network of partners, including the Associations of Cities of Ceramics from Italy, France, Spain, Romania, and Cities of “ancient ceramic tradition” from Austria and Spain, as well as Italy and France.
Every year Argillà Italia will host a different European nation as special guest to showcase the best of its ceramic experience: special guest 2012 will be Finland ("Argillonen"), mainly with ceramics and ceramists from the national association Ornamo.
The ARGILLÀ-ITALIA exhibition itinerary winds along the streets of the Historic District, leaving from the International Museum of Ceramics and ending in the main square, where cultural and spectacular ceramics activities will be held.
Together with the “natural” tourist attraction, Argillà, with its rich and superb exhibition of ceramic art and crafts, aims to captivate a selected public of art collectors, experts, and aficionados from all over Italy, and in particular from the rich regions of northern Italy, where Faenza is located: Bologna, Modena, Ferrara, Ravenna, Florence, Verona, Parma, Milan, Venice, Padua, and Ancona are all cities located between 1 and 3 hours of travelling by car or train from Argillà.
