Auditorium Palacongressi - via della Fiera

Rimini (RN)

Rimini is ready to host the 65th edition of the music festival Sagra Musicale Malatestiana, one of the oldest and most prestigious Italian music festivals.

From 5th August 2014 the festival opens its doors to the music once again, hosting great international symphony orchestras, conductors and soloists, as well as projects where original music is intertwined with the other arts.

In the program of the Symphonic concerts (from 28th August) there are prestigious orchestras such as the Russian National Orchestra, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, the Orchestre National de France and the Rundfunk - Sinfonieorchester Berlin, conducted by important conductors such as Christoph Eschenbach, Daniele Gatti, Vladimir Jurowski, and Marek Janowski. On stage soloists such as Mikhail Pletnev, Truls Mork and Anna Vinnitskaya.

In addition, the program offers the debut of a musical theatre performance by Motus titled King Arthur, and based on the drama by John Dryden with music by Henry Purcell (16th - 17th September).

In August the festival starts with antique music and the cycle SV MONTEVERDI: four events as a tribute to the great Baroque composer (from 5th August).

On the calendar is also the piano marathon which this year is dedicated to the visionary compositions by Charles Koechlin performed by the pianist Maurizio Baglini (23rd September).

Among the side events, two of them will celebrate highlights of Rimini's history: the two thousandth anniversary of Tiberius Bridge (7th September), and the 70 years from the Liberation of the city after the war (21st September).

The music festival will end on October 14th with the concert in honour of San Gaudenzo, patron saint of Rimini. The Orchestra of the Istituto Musicale Lettimi and the Choir of the Cappella Malatestiana will perform music by Schubert in the beautiful scenery of the Malatesta Temple.
