Acquae Mundi

Acquae Mundi began from a grand dream: to introduce something new, different and exclusive.
In its exhibition area of 6,000 sq. m Aquae Mundi shows off its expertise and bursts with the creativity of those who have dedicated their lives to one of the most extraordinary creatures which populate the planet; from the dark abyss of the Mediterranean to the colorful seabeds of the tropics, and from mountain streams to lush rain forests. It is a voyage of the discovery of the origins of life in the company of the salamander, the mythical god of fire, exotic scarlet-eyed spiders, marine creatures of every form and colour, sharks, deep-sea shellfishes and still many others.

The Exposition Area
Mare Nostrum - Exhibition of the Mediterranean ecosystem
The sea is just too big and teeming with life to be able to completely show everything. We at Aquae Mundi have decided to subdivide the Mediterranean according to habitat, that is, we recreated the particular environment that goes from the surface water to the abyss, and from the sandy sea bed to the rocky face that dives into the deep blue sea. There are marine vertebrates and invertebrates which populate the Mediterranean, from the simplest life form to the more complex.  The evolutionary theme offers interesting educational insights and is very relevant.
The tactile pool, where it is possible to touch and pet sharks and stingrays, is the biggest pool of the center containing 37,000 liters of seawater (the entire sea itself contains more than 340,000 liters). The exposition is enriched with fresh water environments (local and tropical), tropical coral reef barriers, a reconstruction of the Amazon ecosystem and many others….
We have done a lot but there is still much to do. We have enough passion and love for the Mediterranean to be able to continue and improve ourselves.

The Mud Population
Amphibians and Fresh water environment of Italy
This is the core of  Aquae Mundi's educational features.
It's a compelling voyage to the unknown and eccentric world of the first vertebrates which appeared on earth millions of years ago alongside the water environment, such as frogs, toads, salamanders, scarlet-eyed spiders, water turtles of the marsh and many other fascinating examples.
