Intrigòun di Carnevale

"Intrigoni", also called "chiacchere", are a typical dessert from the area of Reggio Emilia which is baked in ovens and kitchens all around this area during Carnival.  

Difficulty: medium

Ingredients: 500 g of flour, 2 eggs, 150 g of sugar, 75 g of butter, 1 pinch of yeast, 1 full glass of anise or star anise liquor, 1 splash of white wine, lemon and orange rind to taste.

Preparation:
on a cutting board, combining the ingredients, a smooth and homogeneous dough will come together.  Roll out the dough until it is quite thin, and with a pizza cutter, cut the dough into strips and then into rectangles or squares.  Then make two or three cuts in each square to create strips which will then be woven together (the name "intrigòun" refers to braiding).  Fry each piece in hot oil and then sprinkle them with powdered sugar.
