Where it is
The mass of Corno alle Scale in Lizzano in Belvedere with its 1945 meters of height is the highest peak in the Apennines near Bologna, at the outer most point of the southern part of the province of Bologna, on the border with Pistoia and Modena.
Why visit
The area is very famous for the presence of an important and equipped ski resort - here the ski champion Alberto Tomba took its first steps on skis- and for the Regional Park with the same name. Its rocky crevices create a natural setting of rare beauty and integrity, where many particular botanical species grow.
Where to visit and what to see
Corno alle Scale deserves a visit in every season of the year: in winter, for those who love speed and fun, there are the slopes named after Alberto Tomba, where the Bologna champion often comes to ski. For those who instead what to experience something different, there are numerous trails for alpine skiing and a very modern snowboarding park, where you can practice your acrobatics on a snowboard.In spring, this area becomes an outdoor gym, where you can go hiking or mountain biking. Or you can simply walk along the ridge and discover the many botanicals here and enjoy an amazing panorama which looks out over the Apennines and the Apuan Alps.
Don't miss
Among the many great trails, a visit to Scaffaiolo Lake is recommended. Located exactly on the ridge of the mountain, it has no tributaries and no effluent and it is for this reason that it is a mysterious and legendary place which was also cited by Boccaccio in his works.
To keep fit
In the area of Corno alle Scale obviously the main sport is skiing in all its forms: Nordic skiing, snowboarding, cross county and alpine skiing.During the summertime, you must absolutely try the Parco Avventura “Montepizzo”, ( Adventure Park “Montepizzo”) on the peak of Monte Pizzo (20km), the first one without any barriers in all of Europe and, in Vidiciatico (15km), the beautiful bella piscina "Conca del Sole" (Conca del Sole pool) with a 50 meter slide, geysers, inflatable structures and beach volleyball.

And lastly, not to be missed is the ethnographical museum of Poggiolforato (12km) dedicated to the crafts and culture of the mountains and the Visitors’ Centers of the Corno alle Scale Park in Pianaccio and Madonna dell’Acero (3km).
