Do not wait until the last minute for Christmas shopping when you must find the right gift or even just something thoughtful; the stands in the towns, art cities and at the fair districts offer interesting ideas along with pleasant moments and relaxation.

The historical Christmas markets were kicked off with the "Antica Fiera di Santa Lucia" in Bologna, which until December 26 will, as always, be held under the monumental porticoes of the Santa Maria dei Servi Church. This traditional fair dates back to the end of the 16th century and has welcomed generations of families preparing for Christmas. There is also a vast range of gift ideas at the "Christmas Fair" (until January 6) next to St. Peter's Cathedral, in the heart of downtown Bologna.

Also Reggio Emilia and towns nearby will be transformed for Christmas, with items of every kind at the "Christmas markets"; along with the sparkling stands, visitors will also find special foodstuffs, artistic crafts and lots of music and entertainment with pipers, clowns and jugglers.  December 22, 24.

Lights and colors will brighten up the square in Piacenza for almost a whole month with the "I mercatini farnesiani di Natale", which offers local crafts, sweets, gift ideas, clothing and accessories as well as Christmas decorations.  During this period also many events will be held in the square, such as exhibitions, attractions for kids, theater shows and live music providing joy for everyone.  Until December 27.

The "Christmas Markets" in Rimini offer many things with the market exhibitions of fair trade and artistic and traditional crafts, the Sunday fairs in December and the Christmas tree one, ending with the Christmas Fairs, which fill downtown with colors and gift items of every kind.  Until January 6.

The traditional Christmas market, immersed in a magic atmosphere made of wooden houses and winter wonderlands, is already taking place in Riccione at the "Riccione Christmas Village" with many original gift ideas for great shopping, from artistic crafts to foodstuffs such as vin brulè, hot chocolate, frittelle and roasted chestnuts. The ice skating rink, the rides and Santa Claus's house for children make this Christmas theme park unique. Until January 26.

For those who still are near the Adriatic, this event cannot be missed: “Mercatini di Natale” in Cesenatico (Fc), held in the magical atmosphere of the canal port.  Besides the traditional markets, here you can admire floating nativity scenes, set up on the boats of the Maritime Museum, and participate in musical shows and entertainment.  December 8 – January 6.

In downtown Forlì there will be many colorful markets for the holiday season.  Many gift ideas and delights for the eyes and palate at the “Mercatino di Natale” held every day under the Torre dell’Orologio, Until January 6, and at the “Mercati delle domeniche di Natale”. December 22.

The opportunity to shop under the sparkling lights of Christmas, and also visit historic downtown and admire historic UNESCO monuments, can be had at the "Christmas markets" in Ravenna starting on December 7 and running until January 6. From the historic market of artistic and creative hobbies to the Christmas Market in the square or the original Green Health Market, the exhibition market of typical agricultural and organic products of Romagna businesswomen, the City of Ravenna exhibition market of antiques and crafts, and the Flower Market.  The Christmas feeling can be felt along every street and in every square in this city of art.

Also the market in Lugo, the lovely town just inland from Ravenna and hometown of Francesco Baracca, is among the first Christmas markets being held starting from November. With “Dona 2013” historic downtown and the Loggiato del Pavaglione, an imposing 18th century portico, will be invaded by everything that stimulates gift giving, with really original ideas.  For the market, the commercial activities downtown will stay open and the streets and squares will be enlivened by entertainment and street shows. December 21.

Ferrara offers just as much with its numerous "Fairs and markets": the Fair of Things Gone By, the Farmer's Market, the Market of Christmas Crafts, Ingenious Works, the December Fair and the extraordinary Artistic Crafts Fair will all enliven every corner of this magnificent Renaissance city.  Until January 6.
