Holy Doors

Monsignor Carlo Mazza

There are two new aspects to this Jubilee, one that it is "extraordinary" and the other is its concentrating on Mercy. The Vatican "slogan" points to the theme of being "Merciful like Our Father". This means experiencing for ourselves the infinite "tenderness" of God by walking through the “Holy Gate”, reached after a "pilgrimage", which opens on our personal meeting with Christ, the true "gateway" to salvation. The Jubilee should be a strong and moving experience with the mercy of God. He never tires of waiting for man and is always ready to welcome us into his arms, after recognizing our sins and our need for forgiveness. The meeting with our merciful Father comes during the sacrament of penitence, in the prayers praising God for his gift given through the Church, and in the practice of solidarity and charity. In the gift of Indulgence, a typical jubilee symbol, the light and beauty of the heart grows so that it can eliminate the negative traces of sin and every residue of suffering, taking from the great grace held by the Church.
