Blue Flag Recognition 2014

Blue Flag

The Romagna Riviera is once again the star in this edition of the Blue Flag awards, which are not given just for clean water, but also for the eco-sustainable services available for tourists. This flag is synonymous with clean swimming water, but it also represents ecological services, such as recycling or bike paths, which are available to everyone, in line with the criteria of sustainable management of the region.

There are a total of 93 swimming areas in 2014: 20 in the province of Ferrara, 25 in the province of Ravenna, 11 in the province of Forlì-Cesena and 37 in the province of Rimini.  The monitoring point is located in the sea where the most number of swimmers or the highest risk for pollution is thought to be.

The Blue Flag is an international recognition, begun in 1987, which is awarded every year by the Foundation for Environmental Education-FEE.  Initially European, the project has been extended to 41 countries worldwide.

Here are all of the places recognized:

- Province of Ferrara

Lidi di Comacchio: Lido degli Estensi, Lido degli Sacchi, Lido delle Nazioni, Lido di Pomposa, Lido di Spina and Lido di Volano.
- Province of Ravenna

Lidi ravennati: Lido Adriano, Lido di Classe, Lido di Dante e Lido di Savio;
Lidi cervesi: Milano Marittima and Pinarella.
- Province of Forlì-Cesena

Cesenatico, San Mauro Mare and Gatteo Mare.
- Province of Rimini

Bellaria Igea Marina, Cattolica and Misano Adriatico.

For the whole summer on the Arpa website it is possible to check the regional bathing establishments' data, divided by province, and assigned based on the microbiological standards established by the EU and explained in a simple and up to date manner.

Tourists can check the water quality in these areas every day, just by using the interactive online map where all of the seaside towns along the coast can been seen and the quality of the water checked: excellent, good, compliant or scarce as well as the test results and the environmental characteristics of each area.

The website also posts alerts in real time of any inconvenience that could compromise the quality of swimming waters in an area.
