A summer of music 2014

There are so many events in July with all the festivals and shows on schedule; here is a quick overview but we invite you to check out the complete program of summer musical events in Emilia Romagna.

Our journey among musical notes starts out in Piacenza and the towns in nearby Val Tidone where until October 31 the Val Tidone Festival” will take place, a concert series that will move around among the most beautiful castles, villas and corners of this valley, focusing on classical and ethnic-jazz music, with up-and-coming artists alongside well known musicians from the international and national scene. Just to name a few: the Dado Moroni Quintet (July 2, Sarmato), Cédric Hanriot "GroOovematic" Trio (Agazzano, July 5) Mattia Cigalini Special Quartet (Agazzano, July 6), Jussi Fredriksson Quintet ( Castel San Giovanni, July 11), Rodolfo Vitale Swing Orchestra feat. Tiziano Chiapelli and Tullio De Piscopo ( Pianello Val Tidone, July 12), Tango y algo mas (Ziano piacentino, July 14), Regina Carter Quintet - "Southern Comfort" ( Rottofreno, July 18), Eva Mei, soprano and Donatella Tacchinardi on the piano (Nibbiano, July 26).

At the Auditorium Paganini and at the Parco Ex Eridania in Parma the “Wandering Stars” 2014 will be held, the new summer festival (until August 4) promoted by the Fondazione Arturo Toscanini which this month will host the Verdi choruses with the Coro del Teatro Regio di Parma, on July 10, and the “Operetta eterno amore”, on July 31, a tribute to the lightness of this musical genre: from the first masterpieces of Offenbach to the sensuality of Viennese opera, to the Italian operetta with its exotic and malicious paradises.

Sounds and summer notes will take the audience on a “journey into the soul of the earth” thanks to the twelfth edition of Music in the Castle, a festival with free admission in 22 cities of art with extraordinary singers, great artists, and prestigious orchestras hosted in the castles, fortresses, church yards, courtyards of ancient colonnades, gardens of ancient villas, squares and unusual spaces in the Lands of Verdi around Parma. Coming up next is the style and intensity of Ornella Vanoni (Fontanellato, Pr, July 18), the progressive rock of the UT New Trolls (Zibello, July 20, Pr), and the infectious energy of Irene Grandi (Medesano, Pr, July 25).

Salsomaggiore Terme (Pr) for a whole weekend, from July 11 to 13, will be transformed into Liverpool and will host the fantastic world of Beatle mania with concerts, stands selling memorabilia, discs, exhibitions, seminars and side events thanks to the fifth edition of the festival Salso Meets the Beatles 2014, with free admission. A meeting place for fans and enthusiasts of this famous quartet and the extraordinary world of Beatles culture will take visitors back to England in the 1960s among shows and themed events and the best music by this group. This year's commemoration will be the 50th anniversary of the Beatles' first album“Please please me”.

Again near Parma, for true fans of Verdi this event is not to be missed: "Il Trovatore" performed in the town of Roncole Verdi (Pr) on July 25 and 26.  This masterpiece by Giuseppe Verdi, a colorful melodrama in four acts full of tension and chivalry, which will give a 19th century touch to the two summer evenings, will be held right in front of the home where this Maestro was born.

The prestigious music festival Albinea Jazz, has been held in some historic and artistically interesting buildings for more than 25 years in the town of Albinea, near Reggio Emilia, and is an event of national importance not to be missed for fans of this music genre. The upcoming concerts are with the Kenny Werner Trio, on July 12, and the Twins Quintet on July 15. The festival will end with the concert by the Regina Carter "Southern Comfort" Quintet on July 16.

Unexpected and overwhelming sounds are at the heart of the events on schedule for the 19th edition of the Festival Mundus, an ethnic and folk music festival held in Reggio Emilia and surrounding areas.
