A summer of music 2016

This summer in Emilia-Romagna life is to the beat of music.  The proposed events are wide ranging and will be held in excellent locations both in big towns and small ones, at the sea, in the cities of art and in the Apennines, which will be the backdrop to many events, many of which are free of charge with big names in music.

From the huge calendar of events, we would like to highlight some of the main festivals and summer series, which run the gamut of every kind of music, from rhythm and blues to pop and rock, from classical music to contemporary sounds and folk, offering something for every kind of audience and preference.

Our journey among the notes starts at the beginning of July with the 16th edition of Emilia Romagna Festival, the biggest summer festival of the region which offers 41 events from July 16 to September 10, located throughout the provinces of Bologna, Ferrara, Forlì-Cesena and Ravenna and nearby areas, and as always, in exceptional places dedicated to the discovery of nature, architectonic traditions and culture. "Building Bridges”, focusing on the importance of cultural bridges, which today are more than ever occasions to build dialogue, exchange and mutual understanding, is the theme if this year’s edition.

Not to be missed in Piacenza and the nearby towns in Val Tidone is the Val Tidone Festival” - which will run until January 28, 2017 - the wandering concert series among castles, villas and the most charming corners of the valley, featuring classical and ethnic-jazz music, with young emerging artists alongside well known international and national stars. For example: the BandaKadabra (Saturday, July 9, Castel San Giovanni), Mario Venuti & Urban Fabula (Tuesday, July 12, Gragnano Trebbiense), Karima & Dado Moroni Trio (Sunday, July 17, Pianello Val Tidone), the Orchestra Filarmonica Italiana directed by Fabrizio Cassi together with Ivanna Speranza, Anna Maria Chiuri, Diego Cavazzin, Angelo Veccia (Wednesday, July 20, Sarmato), Paola Cigna, Graziano Dallavalle, Donatella Tacchinardi (Sunday, July 24, Nibbiano), ending the first summer round with the Rodolfo Vitale Swing Orchestra, Tullio De Piscopo and Tiziano Chiapelli (Friday, July 29, Pecorara) and then starting back up again in September.

The sounds and notes of summer will accompany the public in their discovery of serendipity, those happy coincidences, those alchemies that Music in the Castle gives to its public.  This Emilia festival, on schedule until August 30 with free admission, will be held during 25 magical summer evenings in unique places with extraordinary singer-songwriters, great artists, and prestigious orchestras, hosted in castles, fortresses, parish churchyards, old farmhouse yards, gardens of ancient villas, squares and places usually closed to the public in the Lands of Verdi near Parma and reaching both Piacenza and Reggio Emilia. Coming soon is the style of  Armando Quaranta (Friday, July 8, Fidenza, Pr), the unmistakeable rhythm of Sergio Caputo and Francesco Baccini (Tuesday, July 12, Busseto, Pr), the voice of the great Tiromancino (Friday, July 15, Fontanellato, Pr) and the femininity of Sara Rattaro together with the Blanco Notes Band (Thursday, July 21, Fontanellato, Pr), followed by the concert of the Orchestra Regionale dell’Emilia Romagna (Friday, July 22, Pellegrino P.se, Pr, but also Friday, July 29, San Secondo P.se, Pr), and the show of words and music with Uccio de Santis (Wednesday, July 27, Sissa-Trecasali, Pr).
