Slow Spring 2014

Slow Spring 14From March 21 to June 22 the Po Delta Park will take on the rhythm of Slow Spring.  Three months of events to experience nature in all its shades, to see pink flamingoes landing delicately in the water, uncontaminated woods and ancient wetland forests, to taste typical local flavours and enjoy a truly unique hospitality.

In the Po Delta Park, nature enthusiasts and outdoorsmen can discover and get to know the vast nature reserve that stretches out between Ferrara and Ravenna, offering enchanting landscapes, with a packed calendar of events to be experienced first hand, to the slow rhythm of nature.

The programme is really full and includes hiking, boat trips, horseback riding and bike rides in the most interesting places in the Park, from Goro to Mesola and up to the Marshes of Comacchio and, farther south, Cervia and Ravenna.  For those who love birdwatching it will be possible to observe and photograph the many species present in this area while those who love to eat will have the chance to taste local products and discover the fishing traditions here and delicious seafood.  There will also be many workshops for kids who can get in touch with nature and the fauna of the Delta in a fun and educational way.

During this series of events, there will be some appointments that should not be missed, starting with the traditional Green Days, March 29-30 and April 5-6 in the beautiful setting of the Classe Pinewood and I Maggio Park (in the town of Fosso Ghiaia, Ravenna).  Two weekends dedicated to good cooking, with a special ingredient, the truffle, which flourishes in this pinewood.  The highlight of this event will be the 36th Truffle Fair with a market of local products, food stands, competitions, and demonstrations with trained truffle dogs.

From April 18 to 21 there will be Slow Easter, a chance to spend the holidays participating in excursions, learning labs and cultural events in some of the most interesting sites in the Park.  Do not miss the night walks where visitors will learn to recognize the sounds and songs of animals – new this year – and the trips on the electric train looking for the famous Mesola deer.

In May, there will be the highly anticipated 7th edition of the International Birdwatching and Nature Tourism Fair on schedule from May 1 to 4 in Comacchio (Fe).  Besides the expo pavilions dedicated to optics, photography, specialized publications, sportswear, biodiversity and slow tourism, visitors can also try out the best birdwatching and photography equipment and participate in numerous side events.  Along with the fair there will also be excursions, learning labs, meetings with internationally famous photographers and birdwatchers in collaboration with EBN Italia, conventions, tastings and much more.  Among the new features of the 2014 edition are the "Green Jobs" pavilion, dedicated to nature professionals and the green economy sector, and the "Birdwild" pavilion which will host the most fascinating European destinations for birdwatching and an international meeting of the BBTL (Blogger Birdwilde Tour Leaders) from the Birdwatchers, Wildelife, and Sealife Associations.

In May there will also be a whole weekend, May 10-11, again in Comacchio, completely dedicated to Sports and Nature; while June 2 will be dedicated to Slowemotion, the Green Day, hosted by the "Unione Appennino e Verde", during which a wide range of excursions and guided tours of the  Park have been organized from Ferrara to Ravenna.

The events of Slow Spring will continue until June 22, with a series of interesting initiatives open to all those who love nature and the good life.
