Exhibitions and openings in Emilia-Romagna. 2016

The new season invites you to delve into the beauty of art and culture. Here we offer you a wide range of exhibitions and openings all around the region of Emilia-Romagna.  Whether you are passing through the ancient inland towns or visiting the major cities of art you will have the chance to enjoy the museums, galleries and prestigious institutes where you can admire national and international masterpieces enriching your vacations with a touch of culture.

In the heart of Parma, in the rooms of Palazzo del Governatore, there will be the exhibition "Secret Japan.  Photography masterpieces of the 1800s", held for the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship and Commerce between Italy and Japan.  140 original photographs taken by great Japanese and European photographers between 1869 and 1910, with a focus on the masterpieces of the Yokohama school, one of the best of photography in this era, and in the traveling experiences of the "globetrotters". Until June 5.

Just a few kilometers from the emilian city, in the Abbey of Valserena, traditionally known as Stendhal's “Charterhouse of Parma”, the CSAC Archive-Museum (Study Center and Archive of the Communications University) houses and conserves original materials of visual communications, and Italian artistic research and design materials starting from the early decades of the 20th century.  An extraordinary patrimony of more than 12 million pieces divided into five sections: Art, Photography, Media, Design and Show Business.  Through the spaces of the big Cistercian Church, of the "Sala delle Colonne", of the "Sala Ipogea" and of the Court of sculptures, this new permanent collection represents the complexity and wealth of the collections of the archive with more than 600 works on display.

In Mamiano di Traversetolo, near Parma, at the Fondazione Magnani Rocca, the creative seasons of "Gino Severini. L'emozione e la regola" are in full bloom.  There are one hundred works, of which twenty-five have never been displayed in Italy, of this student of Giacomo Balla who became a star of the 1900s.  These works range from the early linguistic breaks of Severini's avant-garde phase to the artist's search for a harmonic balance later on, from the most rigorous gold standard phase of the 1920s and 1930s to the freer and more extroverted expressions of the 1940s, up to the neo-cubist and neo-futurist works of the 1950s and 1960s.  Until July 3.

Exhibitions and openings in Emilia-Romagna. 2016In Reggio Emilia not to be missed is European Photography.  "Via Emilia. Streets, journeys, borders" is the theme of the 11th edition which revolves around the great Roman road which runs from the river to the sea, inspired by "Explorations of the Via Emilia" (1986), a collective work on this landscape by Luigi Ghirri.  In this work, the artist, combining several photographers' research with his own, was able to get important figures to interact in telling the tale of a very real country.  The exhibitions will be held in various locations in the heart of the city, from the Chiostri di San Pietro to the Spazio Gerra and Palazzo Magnani and, together with Circuito Off, every place, even the most hidden, will become an art gallery.  May 6 - July 10.

Visitors to Reggio Emilia can also admire the rooms of the Maramotti Contemporary Art Gallery, also in Reggio Emilia, once the location of the Max Mara factory, with its two floors with forty-three rooms and two open spaces, hosts more than two hundred works including paintings, sculptures and installations representing the main Italian and international artistic trends from 1945 to today.  The permanent exhibition is free.

In the city of Bologna, inside the Civic Archeological Museum the Egyptian collection of the city will be joined by that of the National Museum of Antiquity of Leiden in Holland and will become the capital of "Egypt.  Millennium of Splendor" thanks to an exhibition of about 1700 square meters of art and history.  Visitors can see the great masterpieces such as the statues of Maya, the superintendent of the royal treasure of Tutankhamen, and Meryt, singer of Amon, as well as some of the most important reliefs of Horemheb, commander in chief of the Egyptian army at the time of Tutankhamen and then the last sovereign of the XVIII dynasty, from 1319 to 1292 BC.  Until July 17, 2016.

Exhibitions and openings in Emilia-Romagna. 2016Not very far away from Bologna, in the heart of Motor Valley is a chance to have some fun.  Ferruccio Lamborghini, creator of the "legendary bull", was born one hundred years ago and, for the occasion of this important anniversary, the program of festivities will stop also in Funo di Argelato, home of the Ferruccio Lamborghini Museum from April 28 to 30.  Here for the Ferruccio Lamborghini Anniversary an exhibition has been prepared that looks back at the the personal and creative story of Ferruccio through the legendary industrial production of the "charging bull": from the first Carioca tractor to the legendary MiuraSV, from the Urraco alla Espada and the offshore motorboat Fast 45 Diablo Classe 1, eleven-time world champion, to the famous "Barchetta" built by Ferruccio to participate in the Mille Miglia in 1948.  But it doesn't stop here: also open to everyone is the gala dinner and the program of special events in the places of the personal and professional story of this great genius of mechanics.

Moving north east, we arrive in Ferrara, the Renaissance city that boasts of a UNESCO recognition, and into the territory of the Po Delta and the "Delizie", the ancient Este family residences.  Walking around historic downtown you will see the majestic Este Castle.  Here you can admire "Art for Art.  The Este Castle hosts Boldini and De Pisis".  Some of the great works of Giovanni Boldini and Filippo de Pisis will be open to the public, two Ferrara-born painters who were internationally known artists between the end of the 18th century and the 19th century.  From the Boldini exposition, which highlights his undisputed roll in the Belle Époque, the show moves into the part dedicated to De Pisis, from the influences of metaphysical painting to his stenographic period and then on to the masterpieces towards the end of his career.  Until December 30.

Forlì awaits you with "Piero della Francesca. Discovering a legend". The theme of this exhibition is the fascinating relationship between critics and art, historic research and artistic production over more than five centuries.  Along with the works of the painter from Sansepolcro, which will be the core of the show, there will also be paintings by the best artists of the Renaissance in order to see what influence they had on later painting. In particular, the popularity of this artist in the 1900s can be seen in the works, among others, of the Italians Guidi, Carrà, Donghi, De Chirico, Casorati, Morandi, Funi, Campigli, Ferrazzi, and Sironi as well as foreign artists such as Balthus and Hopper who carried Piero's heritage into modernity.  Until June 26.

The Mar - Museum of Art of the city of Ravenna will open its doors to allow visitors to be swept away by "The seduction of antiquity. From Picasso to Duchamp from De Chirico to Pistoletto". The show documents how uncontainable the lure of antiquity was during the 1900s, not just among the artists who did not participate in the experimentation and transgressions of the avant-garde, but also among those who, while remaining faithful to innovative groups and trends, took inspiration from history in many ways.  From stars like De Chirico, Morandi, Carrà, Martini, and Casorati, to the crucial period of the "return to order" between the two world wars and up to the so-called "magic realism", but also the very different "neo-baroque" and the season of Pop Art and Arte Povera. There will be many foreign artists' works such as Duchamp, Man Ray, Picasso, and Klein, just to name a few.  Until June 26.
