Emilia Romagna Festival 2012

Emilia Roamgna Festival 12 JPG Until September 13 the exclusive summer events of Emilia Romagna Festival will continue, dedicated to musical excellence and charming places with a very high quality program involving locations in the four provinces of Bologna, Ferrara, Ravenna, and Forlì-Cesena.

After the beginning on Tuesday, July 3 in Forlì, which celebrated fifty years of minimalism with Michael Nyman, the festival will continue in August and September with important international musicians and promising young artists, impressive symphonic orchestras and prestigious chamber music groups, the event “Non solo musica (not just music)” with Marescotti and the ERF Career Award which this year will be given to Catherine Spaak.

Closing out an extraordinarily heterogeneous program of events will be the final concert on Thursday, September 13 in the enchanting central Piazza della Molinella in Faenza (Ra), with the Arturo Toscanini Philharmonic, directed by the prestigious baton of Israel Vinon, with a symphonic and concert repertoire from the 1800s and 1900s, with great soloists, and with the national premier of a new composition by Ennio Morricone.

THE BIG MUSICIANS AND THE MANY DIMENSIONS OF MUSIC

Among the international artists of this edition worth mentioning are: Alexander Hülschoff on the violoncello and Andreas Frölich on piano on September 2 in Casola Valsenio (Ra) in a concert dedicated to Bach and the concert directed by Alberto Batisti, with a program dedicated entirely to Johann Sebastian Bach on September 10 in Forlì.

This program also pays homage to bel canto: in the splendid setting of Villa La Babina two opera stars, the soprano Paola Antonucci and the mezzo soprano Marianna Vinci, accompanied by Solisti del Teatro Regio di Parma in “Donne all’opera” on September 1 in Sasso Morelli, a town near Imola (Bo); and again, space for the voices of Coro Costanzo Porta in a very refined repertoire dedicated to choir chamber music from the 1800 and 1900s (September 4, Forlì).

NOT JUST MUSIC

After years of recitals, Ivano Marescotti will perform in “Nessun attore può venire da Bagnacavallo”, an incredible but true story: the journey from Villanova di Bagnacavallo, working in a factory making fruit boxes, to Hollywood with Ridley Scott on September 2 in Castel San Pietro Terme (Bo).

YOUNG STARS GROW UP

Alongside the big well known artists, you can also see young talents.

For the Primo Premio!, dedicated to new talents who have been recognized in the most important national and international competitions, there is the event on Tuesday, August 7 in Tossignano (Bo), Eduardo Dell'Oglio with his cello will perform the music of Gabrielli, Bach, Hindemith and Castagnoli and finally the four events with the Calidore String Quartet, winner of the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition 2011 in South Bend (USA), who will debut in Italy at the Emilia Romagna Festival (August 27 in Forlì; August 28 in Budrio (Bo); August 29 in Imola (Bo); August 30 at the Rocca San Casciano (Fc).

ERF CAREER AWARD

Emilia Romagna Festival 2 JPG This year this award will be given to Catherine Spaak in a special evening in music, with the piano of the young and very talented Martin Kasik on August 26 in Tredozio (Fc). You can also see Catherine Spaak in the new version of the musical poem “Il Piccolo Principe (The Little Prince)” in a national premiere. The masterpiece by Saint-Exupéry will be told as a bedtime story, following the little footsteps of the Prince along the pentagrams for flute and piano with the music of much loved contemporary composers such as: Bacalov, Glass and Penderecki (August 24, Cesenatico - Fc).
