Vov (Egg Nog)

Vov RavennaThis is a delicious recipe typical of Ravenna and the surrounding areas. It was traditionally served in tiny glasses, especially for important occasions, such as Christmas and New Year’s. Full of calories, it was well suited to the cold days of winter.

Ingredients: 1.5 liters of milk, 400-450 g of sugar, 2 sticks of vanilla, 8 egg yolks, 220 g of pure alcohol, 270 g of marsala egg wine (not dry).

Preparation: boil the milk with the sugar and vanilla for about 45 minutes (the boiling time controls the density). Separately, mix the alcohol and the marsala, slowly add the alcohol mixture to the egg yolks, and mix vigorously. Pour it all into the milk, when the milk has cooled.  Stir and then filter with a very fine sift. It should be shaken before serving it. It can be served cold or at room temperature.
