Easter at the sea

For the Easter holiday, the Riviera is preparing to inaugurate the summer season offering visitors a calendar of events which will allow seaside towns to present their very best characteristics, traditions and of course their renowned hospitality.

easter pennabilli JPGFirstly, we recommend the historical reenactments of the Via Crucis, such as the centuries old nighttime procession of the Jews on Good Friday in Pennabilli, near Rimini, on March 29, or the complex live representation in Civitella di Romagna, near Forlí, which in various settings, each minutely decorated, reenacts the Passion of Christ, on March 24.  In Montefiore Conca, near Rimini, more than one hundred people will participate in the Via Crucis, many of whom will be wearing long black hoods to show that they belong to the ancient groups who were the heads of the parish churches, March 29.  For all of these events the whole town gets involved to celebrate this solemn ritual, in which any devote person can participate.

Besides the sacred reenactments, the seaside towns offer numerous opportunities to spend a relaxing Easter holiday with the whole family, for example in Cattolica with traditional afternoon entertainment for children and adults.  Here in Primo Maggio Square and along the boardwalk the Ancient Flavors Fair is held where you can try dishes and local peasant foodstuffs as well as recipes from the coastal cities with a special focus on DOP products from every region.  March 29 - April 1.

vele pasqua JPGCesenatico has kicked off the summer season for years with an international catamaran regatta called Easter Sails, now in its 39th edition.  This regatta offers enthusiasts an exciting show with 150 colored sails all out on the sea at once.  Skippers are expected to come from all over Europe for a face off among the best crews.  March 30 - April 1.

For young athletes, on the beach of Rimini Marina Centro, this traditional Easter event is back: the world championship of Beach Ultimate Frisbee, Paganello 2013.  This year the theme is "Paganello in Wonderland" and the event is now in its 23rd edition.  The tournament will welcome frisbee players and kids from about the world for exciting competitions in which the focus is fair play, the desire to stay together, to have fun, and of course enjoy some great music and a lot of shows.  March 28 - April 1.

To better organize your vacation, Ravenna, the mosaic capital, offers a wide range of events with guided visits of Unesco monuments, the city bus - a double decker open bus from which to look out over the city - excursions in the Po Delta Park, prestigious concerts, workshops for kids, literary meetings, museum openings, important exhibitions and special food and wine events.  March 26 - April 1.

Primavera slow small 13 JPGIn the Po Delta Park of Emilia-Romagna, Slow Spring is back and with it the chance to discover a territory and its specialties, emotions, landscapes and colors through many events for a total of 14 weeks beginning with Easter.

Hikes, boat rides, horseback riding, bicycling, workshops, tastings and much more: and of course the chance to relax in the Po Delta Park, from Goro to Mesola, going through the Comacchio Marshes then moving south to the oases near Cervia and Ravenna.

But the events do not stop here, there are also the amusement parks such as Mirabilandia in Ravenna, Delfinario, Fiabilandia and Italia in Miniatura in Rimini, Oltremare in Riccione, the Aquarium in Cattolica and the adventura park CerviaAvventure in Cervia, which are ready to welcome everyone, both big and small, to their great attractions.
