The events of “Ferragosto”, from the sea to the Apennines of Emilia Romagna - 2017

The hottest week of the summer is here, and also the one most full of things to do.

Because after an entire day of “sweet nothing” on the beach in the sun, or on the coolest peaks of the Apennines, the need to be entertained becomes pressing and allows us to discover the energy and liveliness that hide, behind their apparent calm, in the towns of Emilia Romagna, ready to celebrate together the long day of  “Ferragosto”, the Feast of the Assumption on August 15.

The events run all throughout the weekend from Friday, August 11 to Tuesday, August 15, so many events to give you an entire trip from north to south on our dear Via Emilia.

Among the hottest events this Ferragosto are those with the greatest icon of Romagna, the Casadei family. In Lido di Savio (Ra) on August 14, Raoul Casadei will in fact celebrate his eightieth birthday, the nephew of Secondo Casadei – author of the famous Romagna mia – which over time has continued to spread and promote the recognition of Romagna liscio dancing in the whole world, music that continues to be a strong expression of identity in Romagna. The day will be enlivened by dancers, entertainers, a marching band playing liscio and joyful music. Along the boardwalk and on the beach there will be dancing and singing with contagious happiness until the big concert of Mirko Casadei – son of Raoul – and of the Casadei Social Club. Then at midnight, everyone will gather for the cutting of the cake.

Also on Monday, August 14 there are events in Faenza (Ra) for the preview of  MEI’s Ferragosto under the Stars. Here the party celebrates 70 years of Casadei Sonora and 30 years of the Trio Italiano. The national premiere of the video clip Romagna Mia will be shown to the public, and there will be the exclusive live performance of dancehall punk by Extraliscio with Moreno Il Boindo and Mirco Mariani and the accordion player Chiristian Ravaglioli – another novelty linked to the new indie-Liscio scene created at MEI in the last few years and peaking in the Night of Liscio - and the new live concert of the great Trio Italiano. This is an important celebration for the Edizioni Musicali Casadei Sonora who spread and safeguard the musical heritage of Maestro Secondo Casadei, the legendary Strauss of Romagna, who has rightfully become part of tradition, of pop culture and of Italian customs. More than 1000 songs (of which 1048 were recorded), “inherited” by many Italian orchestras are performed in the evening with enthusiasm, enthralling an audience of all ages.

The party continues on August 15 in Santarcangelo (Rn) in Piazza Ganganelli, where the "king of liscio" Raoul Casadei will be present with the popular music of the orchestra Mirko Casadei, from 8:30pm to midnight.

The musical events in Emilia-Romagna as always will offer an incredible choice and the best of Italian traditional music but also a wide range of international music. From the traditional folk music of the Appennino Festival on the Piacenza peaks to the rhythms from abroad such as soul, Brazilian, funk and jazz at Cueva Summer Jazz at the Abbey of Pomposa (Fe), from the concert at dawn on August 15 on the beach in Cesenatico together with Kenneth Bailey & CMS Soul Revue to the electrifying live shows of Radio Deejay in Riccione, which will host Francesco Gabbani and Marianne Mirage on the evening of August 14, before ending with a fireworks show, and Ghali and Merk & Kremont on August 15. Big laughs are guaranteed in Cattolica on Sunday, August 13 with the comic show by Pucci, while refined and elegant notes will play in the Basilica di San Vitale in Ravenna (Unesco heritage site) at the concert of the organ player Sergio Orabona, for the the 56th International Festival of Organ Music, the oldest organ festival in Italy.

If music is not enough for you, many chances to have some fun will offer evening entertainment in the heart of Ravenna, Forlì, Comacchio, and Santarcangelo. Among the places that deserve a special visit are the Ancient Port of Classe in Ravenna, Certosa Cemetery in Bologna – a cemetery with important art and monuments – and, for a night dedicated to the stars and to romanticism, the Castle of Gropparello (Pc).

In Santa Sofia (Fc) the 26th edition of the International Festival of Performing Arts awaits you, and its prologue will be held on August 12 in Corniolo. It will be an explosion of colors, music, magic and performing arts with theater, circus acts, performers, acrobats, fakirs, jugglers, jesters, mimes, clowns, and actors. The festival will also delight your palate with the delicious food stands located along the Parco Fluviale.

And if you are looking for good food, then you must get your fork and knife and run to the Great Fishermen's Fish Fry, a traditional event in Cesenatico that every year, on the Eve of Ferragosto, offers fresh fish prepared by the able hands of the fishermen that caught the fish.

Starting at midnight, fireworks will light up the entire sky of Emilia Romagna.

Along the Riviera you can easily admire them from the beach - in Gatteo a Mare the place to be is the evocative mouth of the Rubicon River.

Instead, for a dive into art, the many exhibitions on schedule will be open also during the special weekend, while if you love the outdoors, there are guided tours of every kind. The outdoor cinema (like that one in the heart of Bologna or CinemaDivino in the wineries of the region) will allow you to enjoy the beauty of city centers or their surroundings under the starlight, while if you want to admire the starlight itself, there will be many places to go on the Night of Saint Lawrence and also in the days following that.

Discover all the events from Friday, August 11 to Tuesday, August 15.
