In the rooms of Villa Verdi

villa verdiThe villa at Sant'Agata in Villanova sull'Arda was bought by the composer in 1848 and enlarged and improved over the years. Giuseppe Verdi lived there with his second wife Giuseppina Strepponi. The house is intimately tied to the places associated with Verdi at Busseto and is surrounded by a large and luxurious park in a romantic style which was designed by the composer himself. The interior is intact in its furnishings and is rich in curios.

The Maestro lived there all his life from 1851 apart from his sojourns in Paris and winters spent in Genoa, thereby uniting a life of music and country pursuits.

Today the museum consists of only a part of the building where Verdi's heirs still live. Visitors cross Strepponi's room with its original furnishings, the singer's dressing room which contains a piano, Verdi's bedroom/study with four-poster bed and desk containing various objects - a piano, books and a portrait bust in terracotta by Vincenzo Gemito which was originally in the villa's park.

The visitor continues through another two rooms which contain documents, photographs, copies of Verdi's works and the furnishings of the bedroom at the Grand Hotel in Milan where the musician died.
