XII National Urban Trekking Day in Emilia Romagna - 2015

Bologna, Correggio, Forlì and Salsomaggiore Terme are the cities in Emilia Romagna which, among the 50 in Italy, will participate in the XII National Urban Trekking Day.

Saturday, October 31, citizens and visitors will have the chance to experience and discover the lesser known places and hidden monuments of the most beautiful cities of art in the country.

In the year of the Expo, this event is dedicated to flavors, an experience that should be enjoyed with all five senses.  Every route offers delectable itineraries, suitable also for the not so athletic, which will begin with walking around to discover places and will end with tastings of local products and traditional Italian dishes.

The key element of Urban Trekking is that of going to discover places that are not so common in mainstream tourism in order to favor sustainable tourism. The itineraries on schedule will allow visitors to see places that are often closed to the public or not usually visited: from the palace of Terme Berzieri in Salsomaggiore Terme, to many other magnificent buildings and monuments in the other participating cities.

But what is Urban Trekking? Urban trekking is an activity that mixes sports, art, food and the desire to discover hidden treasures and curiosities in a city through itineraries characterized by uphill paths and stairs.  It is a kind of “vagabonding” tourism, free and full of surprises, suitable for all ages, without any particular training needed.  Besides being an activity which is good for you physically and mentally, urban trekking is also good because it reduces the traffic in the traditional tourism areas, widening the area of visits to the more suburban zones of city centers and lengthening stays.  Urban trekking is a soft sport for all ages.  The itineraries are divided by length and difficulty and range from expert trails to beginner ones.  Urban trekking does not require any previous training and is ideal for doing a sport as a family, children and grandparents included.
